gotten good rain. man, we needed it big time. >> at first, i thought i was going to get missed again last night. >> don and i live on the same latitude, if you will. two nights ago the dynamic was primarily south. i was looking down at the clouds. you could see the lightning on the clouds, we were missed. last night, it was changed to north. over the past few nights, we've gotten shower activity we've needed. we were at rock hall last weekend. centerville and chestertown and rock hall. i'll tell you something interesting about corn. when corn is dry, the stalk sticks straight up. normally, it's like this, hanging as you see it. when corn gets really dry, the stalks go straight up in the air. the plant, believe it or not, whatever it's trying to do is trying to save its life. all of the corn was like this. i said, these folks really need rain. >>> well, we have low pressure meandering around the region. we'll have widespread showers and thundershowers. what we've got going on from noon to 8:00 because of rain that's fallen and rain expected to fall this day is a flood watch in effect

this morning. there in time's square, people watched on a number of big tv screens. crowds in florida witnessed the last launch, live. these were images from the roadways were people stopped the cars and crossed the road to get the best vantage point. now, the last launch was a must see event at the maryland science center in the inner harbor. people packed the center to watch the launch on the big screen set up just for the occasion. many were upset that the program is coming to a close, folks pointed out, this isn't the end of space exploration for the u.s.. they want to go to the moon and back to mars. they need a different delivery system to get people there. the shuttle has done its service. it's time to move on now. they've built the international space station. >> reporter: they'll have a live tv feed as well. >>> today was a big day for the owners of a charles village pub, they're rebuilding the restaurant. fire burned it to the ground in january. the new pub will have more space and include a rooftop deck and patio and more employees. they'll be back open by next year. >>> a

earlier and now most of that has died up. still up towards the baltimore region. big storms up there all day, but back into the west frederick county, some of those storms into virginia have produced a lot of rainfall and a flash flood warning remains in effect there until 1:30 in the afternoon -- or 1:30 in the morning, rather. tomorrow afternoon, i do expect to see a lot of rain. the potential is there for us to see some flooding as well. that's why we had that flash flood watch that's in affect for just about everybody dug the day tomorrow. currently a system back to the west that we'll be watching very close ploep that system is bringing heavy rains back towards the st. louis area. make its way our way during the day tomorrow. it's going to be on the warm side, yes, it will continue to be humid but we will see some area. heavy at times that high pressure moves over and that front lingers right across our region. some locations tomorrow could pick up a lot of rain, maybe 1, 2, 3 inches of rain. before said and done, it's not going to be everywhere though. some areas may not see al

the antitrust christine varney is stepping down and there's a big merger in the at&t t-mobile merger that needs a thorough and expeditious review, and i would hope that her stepping down doesn't believe that. i think we could get that done by the end of the year in a fare, faeroe manor. but i have been in a dialogue with chairman genachowski about making sure that we move as quickly as we can on the merger review process as there are a lot of problems with how the commission under both republicans and democrats have conducted themselves in terms of taking too long or imposing conditions that have absolutely nothing to do with the substance of the merger itself. so congress could look at it and there could be a statutory provision certainly, but the best thing to do would be to honor its own 180 dÉjÀ clock. >> just to add something we from time to time work with the fcc on the merger views and from our perspective, you don't deserve a particular outcome, but to do preserve a sort of speedy resolution. sometimes it takes longer with documents but that's where you deserve, i think tha

: good morning, al and tony. the weather is the big question. thunderstorms are in the forecast for the space shuttle's launch. here at nasa godard, everyone is watching and waiting keeping their fingers crossed that the skies will clear and all system go. the space shuttle atlantis is fueled and ready to go on the launch pad at the kennedy space center. it is the last shuttle flight for the 30-year-old program which began with columbia, 1981. it's estimated that about a million people are gathering along the west coast of florida to watch the final shuttle mission. weather remains a concern with a 70% chance of thunderstorms or rain threatening to delay. atlantis must take off by sunday or monday or it will have to wait until july 16th before it launches again. when the mess is over, atlantis will join discovery and endeavour. next, sending astronauts to asteroids or to mars. future missions to the international space station will be handled by private space vehicles. they are in development right now and it's not expected to be another three fire years before they are ready to launch.
